Sebastian Hendel (born December 1, 1995 in Reichenbach im Vogtland ) is a German athlete who has specialized in long-distance running.

Career

On May 27, 2017, he started in Oordegem, Belgium, and ran the 5000 meters under 14 minutes for the first time in 13: 55.08 minutes. As a result, he qualified for the U23 European Championships 2017 in the Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak Stadium in Bydgoszcz , where he started the 5000 meter run with Amanal Petros on July 15 . In a time of 14: 19.59 minutes he finished eighth. After the U23 European Championship, he started at the German championships (DM) in road running and set a new personal best over the 10 kilometers in 29:26 minutes (6th place).

On May 12, 2018, he took part in the 10,000 meter DM in Pliezhausen , where he surprisingly won the German championship title ahead of Simon Boch and Florian Orth in 29: 13.64 minutes. After he was able to improve his personal best in the 10,000 meter run at the DM , he succeeded again on June 9, 2018 in Leiden, the Netherlands, with a time of 28: 44.68 minutes.

On May 26, 2018, he again improved his personal best over the 5000 meters to 13: 49.40 minutes in Oordegem, Belgium, and with this time he finished twelfth. On July 22, 2018 he took at the German Athletics Championships 2018 in Max Morlock-Stadion in Nuremberg at 5000 Meters part and secured in 14: 16.54 minutes ago Orth and Petros again surprising the German championship.

In his European Championship debut at the European Athletics Championships 2018 in Berlin, he finished 24th and was second best German with 29: 53.45 minutes.

In July 2016 he married the Croatian athlete Kristina Božić , whom he met while studying at Iona College in New York City . After the wedding, they moved to Germany and there Kristina gave birth to their first son on October 12, 2016.
