Secretary of State of Arizona
The Secretary of State of Arizona is one of the constitutional offices of the State of Arizona .
Since the position of Lieutenant Governor of Arizona does not exist, the Secretary is the first deputy governor of Arizona. It is the secretary's job to represent the governor when the governor is incapacitated or is out of state. The Secretary will keep the Arizona seal and take an oath of office.
Other duties of the Secretary include:
- Responsibility for the Arizona Advance Directive Registry , which is the official state collection of directives such as living wills , medical proxies, and mental health proxies.
- The Business Services Division regulates the registration of trademarks , trade names and the right of retention according to the Uniform Commercial Code . It also monitors compliance with apostilles , i.e. intergovernmental agreements and notices, and regulates notary publics , employment agencies , players' agents , the rights of absent landowners , telephone sales and aid organizations. He is also responsible for the establishment of partnerships . The responsibility for corporations , however, has the Arizona Corporation Commission .
- The Elections Division is responsible for conducting all elections in the state, and for publicizing their results. This department also regulates lobbying and party funding .
- The Public Services Division is responsible for submitting bills to the Arizona State Legislature , the registration and publication of administrative regulations, and publishes the Arizona Blue Book , a guide to the government of Arizona.
