Ken Bennett

Kenneth "Ken" R. Bennett (born August 1, 1959 in Tucson , Arizona ) is an American businessman and politician ( Republican Party ).

Early years

The Bennett family moved shortly after birth by Kenneth R. Bennett of Prescott ( Yavapai County ). He grew up there and later graduated from Prescott High School . He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . After graduating from college, he served on a mission in southern Japan for two years .

Bennett graduated from Yavapai College in 1981 . He had a President's Scholarship. He then studied at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe ( Maricopa County ), where he did a bachelor's degree in accounting .

Working life

Bennett began working for the Bennett Oil Company , a fuel distributor in northern Arizona in 1984. Initially, he worked in the finance department and gradually rose to become Chief Executive Officer - a position he held until 2006.

He also served on the board of Global Building Systems Inc., a Sustainable Building Systems company, and served on the board of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) as a treasurer .

Public career

Bennett was elected to Prescott City Council in 1985 and served as Prescott Mayor Pro Tem in 1988 . He began working for the Arizona Department of Education in 1992, serving as its president in 1996 and 1998.

In 1998 he was elected to the Arizona Senate for a two-year term . He was re-elected three times. In his second term, he chaired the Education Committee, and in his third and fourth terms, he was Senate President (2003–2007).

In January 2009, joined Governor of Arizona Janet Napolitano back from her post, to the position of Minister of Internal Security in the cabinet of President Barack Obama to begin. As a result, the Secretary of State of Arizona Jan Brewer was appointed as the new Governor of Arizona and Bennett as the new Secretary of State of Arizona. Bennett took his oath of office on January 26, 2009. His election for a full term took place in November 2010. He won over 58% of the votes. He held the post until 2015.

On November 12, 2013, he announced his intention to run for governor of Arizona.

Bennett met his wife Jeanne while studying at ASU. The couple married in 1982 and had three children: Ryan, Dana and Clifton.
