The Seekopf is 1001.8  m above sea level. NHN high mountain near Forbach in the northern Black Forest between the Badener Höhe and the Schwarzenbach reservoir . The Westweg , the most famous hiking trail in the Black Forest, runs over the Seekopf . On the sparsely forested summit there is a memorial stone for Phillipp Bussemer, a member of the Black Forest Association who died in 1918 .

On the eastern flank of the mountain lies the Herrenwieser See in a 170 m deep cirque . To the west of the Seekopf, beyond the saddle, which forms the transition to the Badener Höhe, lies the Black Forest National Park , which has existed since 2014 .

Power plant project

The EnBW plans in the context of a possible extension of the Forbacher pumped storage power station , the superstructure of the Seekopf summit area with a new upper reservoir. A ring dam is to hold the water volume of 2 million cubic meters. The space requirement is set at 23 hectares. By the end of 2016, the documents for the plan approval procedure are to be prepared, after which the company will decide on the implementation of the project.

Identical names

Just eleven kilometers further south, also in the northern Black Forest, is another mountain of the same name, the Seekopf between Seebach in the Ortenaukreis and the Wildsee near the Ruhestein .
