Friedrichshafen Sailing Motorboat Club
The Segel-Motorboot-Club Friedrichshafen eV (SMCF) is a yacht club founded in Friedrichshafen in 1977 . He is represented in the German Sailing Association and in the German Motor Yacht Association.
history
The SMCF was founded in 1977 by sailors and motorboat drivers in what was then a relatively young rear railroad port. With the 1978 classic car regatta , the SMCF hosted a regatta for the first time . In 1983 the Friedrichshafen one-hand regatta was added, which today forms the end of the SMCF season together with the old-timer regatta and attracts numerous visitors during the Interboot . The first IOR regatta followed in 1985 , from which the IMS regatta would later develop. In 1986 the first Graf Zeppelin regatta was started.
In 1991 the SMCF organized the World Cup of X-99 yachts with crews from Japan , Hong Kong , the USA and almost all European countries as part of the eighth Friedrichshafen Sailing Week . The First Class 8 German Cup followed in 1994, and the Shark 24 World Cup in 1995 . In 1999 the SMCF hosted the Swiss Championship and German Open of the X-99 . The SMCF celebrated the 25th anniversary in 2002 with the International German Cup of the First Class 8 boat classes and the 8m One Design as well as the International Lake Constance Cup of the X-99 and the Beneteau 25 .
In 2008 the SMCF hosted the Aphrodite 101 World Cup , and in 2014 the European Surprise Yachts Cup .
Ralf Steck has been President of the SMCF since March 2017, and the association celebrated its 40th anniversary in the same year.
In 2019 the European Cup of the Surprise took place again at the SMCF .
Friedrichshafen sailing week
In 1984, at the suggestion of Club President Willi Ihrig, the first Friedrichshafen Sailing Week took place. The international German championship of the 470 dinghies that was held at the same time demonstrated the high sporting standards of the SMCF. In 1986 the Friedrichshafen Sailing Week was held for the first time by all three Friedrichshafen sailing clubs; since then, this event has been organized by SMCF, WYC ( Württembergischer Yacht Club ) and WVF (water sports club Fischbach) on an annual basis .
Sporting successes
Youth leader Andreas Hestermann sailed around the world with the “Schlüssel von Bremen” at the Whitbread Round The World Race 1989/90 and won the class.
In 2017, SMCF member Julian Sobott took part in the 420 European Championship with his crew member Marc Hillebrand from the WYC .
Clubhouse Schussen
In 1986 the German Federal Railroad acquired the retired Schussen ferry . The Schussen began its service as a railway ferry between Romanshorn and Friedrichshafen in 1929 , after being converted as a car ferry it was in use until 1983. The Schussen was converted into a club house by club members and is also used as a meeting point for regattas
