geography

Seidewitz is about 15 km south of Naumburg (Saale) on the border with Thuringia.

history

Seidewitz was first mentioned in a document in 1423. The place name is probably derived from the Slavic word "zito" for grain. For this reason, the village coat of arms shows three golden ears of wheat that are held together by a ribbon.

Like Casekirchen and Köckenitzsch, Seidewitz belonged to the northern part of the Eisenberg district office until 1826 . The Wettin district office in Eisenberg belonged to different Ernestine duchies due to several divisions in the course of its existence . In 1826 Seidewitz came with the northern part of the Eisenberg district office from the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen and became part of the Camburg exclave. There was a brick factory in Seidewitz for a long time and at the beginning of the 20th century even its own brewery. The ice cellar on the outskirts bears witness to this up to the present day.

From 1922 to 1939 the place belonged to the Camburg district department . Until 1952 Seidewitz belonged to Thuringia like most of today's districts of the municipality of Molauer Land . During the territorial reform of 1952 in the GDR , the place came from the disbanded Jena district to the Naumburg district in the Halle district .

On September 17, 1961, the previously independent community of Seidewitz was incorporated into Casekirchen . As a result of the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Abtlöbnitz , Casekirchen, Leislau and Molau to form the new municipality of Molauer Land , Seidewitz has been one of eleven districts of this municipality since January 1, 2010.

Belfry

religion

The church, built in 1774 in the center of the village, had to be demolished in 1976 due to its dilapidation and the financially weak community. The bell was brought to the neighboring Casekirchen, but has been heard again in Seidewitz since a new bell house was built in 1998. There are regular outdoor services here.

traffic

Former Railway line

Until the partial closure in 1965, the Zeitz – Camburg railway ran south-east of the village. Between Zeitz and Schkölen, the route was converted into an asphalt bike path.
