Selim is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the northeast Turkish province (İl) Kars . The city is located about 30 km southwest of the provincial town of Kars on the D 965 (E 691) trunk road. The train station is located a little south of the city on the railway line that runs from Erzurum via Kars to the Armenian border.

The district Selim was split off from the northern part of the district Sarıkamış in 1957 and independently. It is located in the west of the province and borders the central district ( Merkez ) in the east, Kağızman district in the southeast, Sarıkamış district in the southwest, and Şenkaya district ( Erzurum province ) in the west and Göle district ( Ardahan province ) in the north.

In addition to the district town (2018: 23% of the district population), the district also consists of 53 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 337 residents. Büyük Oluklu is the largest village with 1,344 inhabitants. The population density is below the provincial average (28 inhabitants per km²).
