Şenkaya ( Turkish Şenkaya 'Heiterfels' , Kurdish Bardîz ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Erzurum and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Erzurum (city municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . Şenkaya is located in the northeast of the province and borders the provinces of Ardahan and Kars . Şenkaya has been an independent district since 1946. The old name Bardîz is derived from the Armenian word for garden .
