Çobandede Bridge at Köprüköy over the Aras

Köprüköy (dt .: "bridge village", as Çobandede known Kurmanji Avnîk ) is a town in the same district of the Turkish province of Erzurum , while a municipality in 1993 created Büyükşehir Belediyesi Erzurum (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province) in northeastern Turkey .

The small town of Köprüköy is located between Horasan and Pasinler on a bridge over the Aras River. The 200 meter long bridge dates from the time of the Ilkhan and was built by Amir Tschupan in 1297 . The place was still inhabited by Armenians at the beginning of the 20th century . In recent years the population has fallen enormously due to the massive emigration of the local population.

Köprüköy received the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1972 ; as an independent district, Köprüköy was split off from the Pasinler district in 1990 . The European route 80 (trunk road D100) runs through Köprüköy , and there is also a connection to the Erzurum-Kars railway line.
