Karayazı ( Turkish for black script , metaphorical for bad fate ), ( Kurdish : Qereyazî or Qeza ), is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Erzurum and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Erzurum (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . The Ilçe is the seventh largest in the province. The area around Karayazı is almost exclusively inhabited by Kurds .

According to the city logo, Karayazı received the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1944, and the district of the same name was formed as early as 1937.
