Uzundere ( Turkish for "long brook"; formerly Azort , from Armenian Azortats P'or ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Erzurum and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Erzurum (city municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . Uzundere is in the north of the province and borders the Artvin province . Uzundere was a separate Bucak in the district of Tortum and in 1987 it became an independent district under the name Azort , later Uzundere. The Belediye (municipality, since 1955) and the ten villages ( Köy ) of the Bucak had at the last census before the split (1985) a population share of 25.7% of the district Tortum.

Mountains of the region are: Ziyaret Tepe (2755 m), Tav Dağı (2244 m), Murat Tepe (2234 m), Kıllı Dağ (2530 m), Hergavur Dağı (2835 m), Ak Dağlar (3030 m), Mescit Sıradağları ( 3238 m).

Uzundere is two kilometers east of the country road that connects Artvin in the north with Erzurum in the south in the valley of the Tortum River . Seven kilometers south of Uzundere, a road branches off into a mountain valley to the former Georgian monastery of Haho , nine kilometers north leads to the ruins of the church in Öşk Vank . The artificially dammed Tortum Gölü with an area of 6.6 km² dams the Tortum River up to about ten kilometers north of the city.
