Semiray Ahmedova (born April 21, 1981 in Sofia ) is a Luxembourgish architect and politician of Bulgarian descent. She is a member of the Greens and has been a member of the country's parliament since October 2019 .

Life

Ahmedova was born on April 21, 1981 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, and has been a Luxembourg citizen since June 2004. At the age of nine, she and her parents fled communist rule . She went to school in Dudelange and then studied architecture and urban planning in Brussels . Back in Luxembourg, she first worked in an architecture office, then as a consultant for sustainable building at the myenergy agency and finally at the Ministry of Regional Planning . She describes herself as a "Dudelinger girl" ( Luxembourgish Diddelenger Meedchen ).

politics

Ahmedova has been with the Greens since 2017. In the local elections in the same year, she applied in vain for a seat on the Dudelange council. In the 2018 chamber election , she ran in the constituency of the South, but ended up only in ninth place with three mandates won by the Greens there. After Marc Hansen had already moved into parliament for Félix Braz, who had moved to cabinet , Martin Kox was legally out of the question due to his relationship to his brother Henri and had waived three others, Ahmedova came in place of the resigned Roberto Traversini still on the train. On October 8, 2019, she was sworn in as the youngest member of the Chamber at that time.

Ahmedova sees the focus of her political work, in addition to the areas of energy and environmental policy, above all in combating the increasing prices on the housing market.
