Semiya Simsek

Semiya Şimşek-Demirtas (* 1986 in Friedberg , Hessen ) is a German pedagogue and book author .

Live and act

Şimşek is the daughter of the flower wholesaler Enver Şimşek , who became the first victim of the series of murders of the terrorist group “ National Socialist Underground ” (NSU) in Nuremberg in September 2000 . With her highly acclaimed speech at the central memorial service for the NSU victims on February 23, 2012 in the Konzerthaus Berlin and her book painful home. Germany and the murder of my father made her one of the public voices of the victims' families. The book was filmed in 2016 for the ARD under the title The Victims - Don't Forget Me .

Her father, born in Salur Köy in 1961, came to Hessen from Şarkikaraağaç as a guest worker in 1985 . On Sunday, September 10th, 2000, at the age of 14, she was woken up at 4 a.m. in the boarding school in Aschaffenburg and taken to Nuremberg. At the Nuremberg Clinic , she learned that her father was in a coma. On September 11th, the medics determined the death of the father.

She studied social pedagogy at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences and then worked as an educator in Frankfurt for a while . Semiya Şimşek moved to Turkey in the summer of 2012. She married in Şarkikaraağaç in spring 2013 and has one son.

From May 2013 to June 2018 she took part in the NSU trial as a joint plaintiff . In February 2017 she took part for Die Linke Thüringen in the Federal Assembly for the election of the German Federal President 2017 ( list of members of the 16th Federal Assembly ).
