Semyon Semyonovich Masaraki ( Russian Семён Семёнович Мазараки * July 23 jul. / 3. August  1787 greg. In Talalaivka , Ujesd Romny ; † October 8 jul. / 20th October  1854 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a Russian artillery lieutenant general and arms manufacturer .

Life

Masaraki came from an old, wealthy aristocratic family of Polish origin. He graduated from the 2nd St. Petersburg Cadet Corps , from which he came to the artillery in 1805 . In 1806 and 1807 he took part in the Fourth Coalition War against France in the campaign in East Prussia , where he distinguished himself in the battle of Prussian Eylau . During the fighting during the Russian campaign in 1812 , he distinguished himself again, for which he received the Order of St. Anna IV Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class with a ribbon. In the subsequent War of the Sixth Coalition , he earned the Order of Saint Anne II. Class and the Prussian Order Pour le Mérite in 1813 . During the siege of Soissons in 1814 , he opened the way into the city by shooting the gate, for which he received the Order of St. George IV Class. In 1820 he became a colonel and in 1829 major general .

In Voronezh Masaraki married Anna Ilyinichna (1795–1870), daughter of the publicist Ilya Nikolayevich Debolzew . Her children were born here: Semjon (1823–1888), Ilja (1824– after 1862), Nikolai (1825–1873). Alexander (1828– after 1910) and Andrian (1835–1906).

In 1834 Masaraki became head of the Kazan powder factory , which he managed until 1836. In 1837 he received the (Russian) Order of Saint Stanislaus, 2nd class with a star. In 1839 he became the commander of the Sestroreetsk arms factory . He set up a workshop for the production of prototypes of weapons, which were then mass-produced in other factories. There he also developed the manufacturing process for rifled barrels . In 1845 he became lieutenant general and in 1847, on the highest orders, assessor in the artillery department of the war ministry.

Masaraki was buried in the cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery in St. Petersburg.
