Sepp Frank (born August 28, 1889 in Miesbach as Joseph August Frank ; † February 20, 1970 in Munich ) was a German painter , glass painter, etcher and graphic artist .

Life

Sepp Frank was born in Miesbach as the son of the local district doctor Dr. Albert Frank born. He studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts , an apprenticeship that he completed in contrast to his peer Christian Schad , who was also born in Miesbach. Early on, Frank undertook numerous study trips to further his education. He soon turned to graphics and is still known today for his numerous bookplates . For several years he lived in Neustadt an der Aisch , where there is a large painting of Prince Regent Luitpold in the town hall. In addition to portrait painting, another field of activity was glass painting and he created works for the Munich Cathedral , the Marienkirche in Limburg an der Lahn , the St. Otto Church in Bamberg (1927) and the Church of St. Gabriel in Munich , but also in 1952 a Maria with child for the cath. Church of St. Agatha in Dülmen-Rorup and in 1937 the window “Blessings of Coal Chemistry” for the administrative building of Degussa GmbH in Herne-Wanne-Eickel. These works were partially destroyed in the Second World War. As early as 1942 he was honored by a special exhibition at the Maximilian Museum in Augsburg .

Sepp Frank lived mostly in Feldafing .
