Sex strike
A sex strike or sex boycott is a strike and peaceful opposition in which one or more people do not have sexual contact with their partners in order to achieve certain goals. It is a form of temporary sexual restraint ( sexual abstinence ). Sex strikes were carried out to protest many problems, including war and gang violence. Sex boycott is also a recurring theme in theater and entertainment films . Although a sex strike is mostly carried out by women, it is not the same as a women’s strike .
Examples
In 2001, women in Sırtköy near Antalya went on a sex strike to have the water system repaired. The women had to carry drinking water for miles or bring it to the village with donkeys.
Leymah Gbowee's call to women in Liberia in 2003 to go on a sex strike after 14 years of civil war for peace attracted at least media attention.
In September 2006, Jennifer Bayer and other women from Pereira , Colombia, organized a sex strike in response to 480 gang crime deaths in the area.
In 2008 the women of Kıca , Turkey, went on strike because of the lack of water. The women had to carry the water in canisters from a distance of 13 kilometers or bring it to the village on donkey backs.
In Naples in 2008 women called for a sex strike against New Year's Eve fireworks.
In 2009, Rukia Subow and other activists in Kenya called a sex strike to bring peace to the country; the prostitutes should receive financial compensation to support the strike.
In 2010, Ukrainian women activists from FEMEN called for a 24-hour sex boycott to protest against the discrimination against women by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov .
In 2011, the Flemish politician Marleen Temmerman , Ghent , called for a sex strike because of a political crisis, without believing that her call had any effect. When the coalition under Yves Leterme collapsed in April 2010 , new elections had failed.
In 2011 there was a sex strike on Mindanao Island in the Philippines to bring about peace.
In Barbacoas , Colombia, around 300 women joined a sex strike in 2011 until the town's road connection was acceptable again.
In 2012, prostitutes in Spain are said to have deliberately rejected bankers as clients because of the consequences of the financial crisis.
Isabelle Ameganvi shouted at a rally on August 25, 2012 in Lome , Togo , the women of her country by saying, "Ladies, you would have the gateway to the motherland closed hold" a seven-day Sexstreik on to electoral reform of the incumbent President Faure Gnassingbe to prevent.
The Japanese Yōichi Masuzoe was elected governor of Tokyo Prefecture in 2014 despite sex strikes .
In 2014, the men's activist Nderitu Njoka called a sex strike in Kenya to end alleged discrimination against men by women and the government. Among other things, he criticized the fact that 60 percent of households in Kenya now have a wife in charge, even though the husband is present.

The form of action also raises questions: is sexual satisfaction more important for men than for women? Does this form of protest lead to an objectification of women?
Drama, film
The most famous example of a sex strike in the arts is the comedy against the war by the Greek playwright Aristophanes Lysistrata . The female characters in this play are led by Lysistrata. They refuse to have sex with their spouses in order to force an end to the Peloponnesian War . The comedy was filmed several times, for example in 1947 in the Austrian film Triumph der Liebe , in 1959 in the GDR as Lysistrata or the bed strike of the Athenians and in 1961 in the German television film Die Sendung der Lysistrata . More out of jealousy, women strike in the German comedy Marriage Strike from 1935 and its remake Marriage Strike from 1953.
Lisa's Sex Strike is a 2007 comedy directed by Blake Morrison that Lysistrata adopts. It was played at the Octagon Theater , Bolton .
In the comedy Absurdistan from Azerbaijan 2008, the women go on strike in the hope that the men will repair a broken water pipe to the village. While most of the men want to go to town, one of the men risks his life in order not to miss the wedding with his great love.
In the German TV movie Sexstreik! from 2010, Elena Uhlig and Henning Baum were involved.
The 2011 Franco-Belgian-Italian-Moroccan film Source of Women by Radu Mihăileanu is about the construction of a water pipe for the village.
The film Chi-Raq is an American drama directed by Spike Lee in 2015. The women protest against the bloody street feuds of the gangs in Chicago : "No Peace, No Pussy".
In February 2015, the musician Rona Geffen, Hilit Rozental and Ann Streichman led in Israel their electric-opera "STRIKE! No Sex in TLVillage ”for the first time.
