biography

Bahrke grew up in Tahoe City , California . Her family is originally from Norway , while her paternal grandparents immigrated to the USA from a small town near Oslo . At the age of three she learned to ski, ten years later the trainer of the freestyle team in Squaw Valley recognized her talent. She played several other sports, including soccer , softball, and athletics ; while at school she played the trumpet in the high school band. Her brother Scotty Bahrke , who is five years her junior, is also a freestyle skier, albeit in the aerials discipline. After graduating from high school, she moved to Salt Lake City to study at the University of Utah .

In 1998 Bahrke was accepted into the national team. On January 9, 1999, she made her debut in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup and finished 27th in Mont Tremblant . Just six weeks later, she achieved her podium finish when she finished second in Madarao . After numerous placements among the top ten, she was able to win the first World Cup race on January 6, 2002 in Oberstdorf . At the 2002 Winter Olympics , she won the silver medal behind Norwegian Kari Traa .

Bahrke was particularly successful in the 2002/03 season. She won the World Cup three times and stood on the podium five more times, securing the Moguls discipline. At the 2003 World Cup in Deer Valley , she won the Dual Moguls bronze medal, while she finished fourth in the Moguls competition. The winter of 2003/04 started promisingly with four podium finishes, but then she broke her jaw at the Inawashiro race and had to end the season early. During training before the second race of the 2004/05 season in Mont Tremblant, she had a bad fall and suffered a torn cruciate ligament , a collateral ligament and a meniscus damage in her right knee .

Bahrke qualified for the 2006 Winter Olympics, where she finished tenth and was the best of her team. In the winter of 2006/07 she won the first two races of the season. In the end, she won the dual Moguls silver medal behind Jennifer Heil at the 2007 World Championships in Madonna di Campiglio and finished fourth in the Moguls competition. Because of another serious knee injury, she had to cancel the entire 2007/08 season. In the following season, fifth place was her best result. In March 2009 she won the sixth American championship; She dedicated this to her long-time trainer Clay Beck, who had died in a plane crash a year earlier.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics , Bahrke won another medal, this time the bronze one. At the end of the 2009/10 season, she resigned from top-class sport.

Silver Bean Coffee

While she recovered from her 2007 suffered knee injury, founded Bahrke and her fiancé Matt Happe in Salt Lake City , the coffee roasting Silver Bean Coffee . The mixes on offer have names inspired by skiing. In addition, the company sells over a dozen special coffee blends that are named after American skiers from all branches (“Athlete Blends”). They include Julia Mancuso , Bill Demong and Lindsey Van , among others . A part of the proceeds will be used to support a charitable organization chosen by them.
