VA Shiva Ayyadurai (born December 2, 1963 in Bombay, now Mumbai , India ; as Vellayappa Ayyadurai Shiva ) is an Indian-born American engineer , entrepreneur and conspiracy theorist .

He claims to be the inventor of email after writing a program called "EMAIL" in high school in the late 1970s. This claim was first circulated in the media, but later revoked when historians and pioneers of the Arpanet made it clear that email had been used as early as the early 1970s.

biography

Ayyadurai was born in 1963 as Vellayappa Ayyadurai Shiva in Bombay (now Mumbai ). When he was 7 years old, he moved to the United States with his family.

As a high school student, he took a programming course at New York University when he was 14 . During an internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), where his mother worked, he wrote claims to 1978 or 1979, the "EMAIL" program for which he 1982 Copyright ( Copyright let Enter). Ayyadurai studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science and two masters in information visualization and mechanical engineering, respectively . He received his PhD in bioengineering in the field of systems biology .

In 1994, Ayyadurai founded Millennium Cybernetics, a company that develops software for the automatic management of emails. The company's customers include well-known companies such as Kmart , American Express and Calvin Klein, as well as over 30 US Senators.

In 2007 he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study the integration of traditional Indian Siddha medicine into modern systems biology. However, the contract was canceled by MIT.

In 2009 Ayyadurai was commissioned by India's Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to set up a company to commercialize the research of the numerous government laboratories. After discrepancies, the order was withdrawn 5 months later. According to Ayyadurai, the reason for this was that he rebelled against corruption.

In 2014 he married Fran Drescher ; The couple split in 2016.

In 2017, Ayyadurai applied to be a Senator for the State of Massachusetts . After initially running for the Republican Party , which had rejected him, he declared himself an independent candidate. Next to him were Elizabeth Warren (Democrats) and Geoff Diehl (Republicans). Warren won the 2018 election with 60.4% of the vote, followed by Diehl with 36.2%. Ayyadurai received 3.39% of the vote.

Controversy

In the 2010s, Ayyadurai claimed to be the inventor of e-mail in the modern sense with his program "EMAIL" , which was briefly circulated in the media without being examined, but later revised. Although there were several e-mail programs, an RFC standard ( RFC 733 ), and a journal on Electronic Mail and Message Systems years before Ayyadurai wrote his program, Ayyadurai continues to claim to be the inventor of e-mail. His program differs conceptually from any previous software in that it is intended to map the entire correspondence within an organization. Two days after the death of Ray Tomlinson in 2016, who had already established the @ sign in emails between computers in the military ARPANET in the early 1970s , Ayyadurai described him as a liar. The fact that Ayyadurai is not recognized as the inventor of e-mail is due, among other things, to his (dark) skin color and the fact that the military research institutions have more power than him.

Published in 2015 Ayyadurai a report in the context of systems biology and on the basis of mathematical models came, among others, to the conclusion that genetically modified soybeans compared to untreated soybean a higher proportion of cancer-causing formaldehyde , while a lower proportion of the antioxidant ' glutathione included. The report was rejected by the European Food Safety Authority , among others . Ayyadurai stuck to his position that there are insufficient standards for the safety of genetically modified foods. He offered Monsanto a $ 10 million bet that they couldn't prove the safety of genetically modified foods. The company didn't take the bet. In 2016, Ayyadurai offered Hillary Clinton $ 10 million for her presidential campaign if she could refute his research.

During the Covid-19 pandemic , Ayyadurai spread conspiracy theoretic views about the pandemic on various social media channels. In January 2020, he claimed the novel coronavirus was patented by the Pirbright Laboratory. However, the patent referred to related to the infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and not to SARS-CoV-2 . He went on to claim that the novel coronavirus was spread by the Deep State and accused Anthony Fauci , director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases , of being introduced by the Deep State. For example, there is (contrary to what Fauci claims) no connection between HIV and AIDS . Ayyadurai described the connections as fake science and demanded that Fauci be dismissed. Ayyadurai's supporters campaigned to replace Fauci with Ayyadurai.

In March 2020 he published an open letter to Donald Trump in which he wrote that a lockdown was superfluous and instead advocated therapy with high doses of vitamins that could prevent and cure the infection.
