Shmuel Kantorovitz (born September 17, 1935 ) is an Israeli mathematician who deals, among other things, with the spectral theory of operators in Banach spaces .

life and work

Kantorovitz studied mathematics from 1951 to 1955 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem with a Master of Science degree and worked as a mathematician for the Israeli government until 1960. He then taught at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis , where he received his doctorate in 1962 with the dissertation: An Operational Calculus and Spectral Operators. At Princeton University , Princeton , he taught and researched until 1964, after which he was assistant professor at Yale University in New Haven until 1967 and then until 1970 associate professor at the University of Illinois , Chicago. Here he became a professor and researched until 1978 with the National Science Foundation research grant, which was received in 1961. In 1972 he went as a professor at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan , Israel , where he headed the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 1977 to 1979 and 1985 to 1987 and retired in 2003.
