Busenaz Sürmeneli (born May 26, 1998 in Trabzon , Turkey ) is a Turkish boxer . Among other things, she was junior world champion 2013 in light middleweight and youth world champion 2015 in middleweight as well as elite world champion 2019 in welterweight .

Career

Busenaz Sürmeneli is around 1.72 m tall and started boxing at the age of ten. In 2013 she won the silver medal in the light middleweight division at the EU Junior Championships in Keszthely . After early victories against Aoife Burke from Ireland and Paulina Sobieska from Poland, she was only just beaten 1: 2 in the final against Chantelle Reid from England. In the same year, however, she also won the light middleweight division of the Junior World Championships in Albena . This time, she defeated Chantelle Reid in the first fight and then Rangiwhakaoma Te Tomo from New Zealand and Davina Michel from France.

In 2014 she was able to win the Middleweight European Junior Championships in Assisi , where she could beat the Romanian Raluca Curavalea, the Russian Daria Semaschko and the Polish Weronika Pławecka. In 2015 she won the Middleweight European Youth Championships in Keszthely and the World Youth Championships in Taipei . In 2016, she won the middleweight division with another final win against Wlada Kalachewa at the European Youth Championships in Ordu and in 2017 she finished second at the EU Championships in Roccaporena after losing in the final to Nouchka Fontijn from the Netherlands .

In 2018 she won gold in the middleweight division at the U22 European Championships in Târgu Jiu , but was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Russian Darima Sandakowa at the European Championships in Sofia in 2018 . She was also subject to this in the preliminary round at the 2018 World Championships in New Delhi .

In 2019 she again won the U22 European championships in Wladikawkas in the welterweight division , was eliminated at the European Games in Minsk against Nouchka Fontijn in fifth place and won a bronze medal in the welterweight division at the European championships in Alcobendas after she was eliminated in the semifinals against Darima Sandakowa.

She achieved her greatest success to date at the 2019 World Championships in Ulan-Ude . With victories against the Australian Kaye Scott, the Italian Assunta Canfora, the Irish Christina Desmond, the Russian Saadat Dalgatowa and the Chinese Liu Yang, she won the welterweight gold medal.
