Siegfried Häußler (born January 11, 1917 in Deizisau ; † August 16, 1989 in Altbach ) was a German general practitioner, association representative and university professor.

Life

Siegfried Häußler was born on January 11, 1917 as the fourth child of a Swabian mayor in Deizisau near Plochingen. After high school and labor service he studied medicine at the universities of Tübingen , Innsbruck and Jena . In 1942 he graduated from the University of Tübingen with the state examination and doctorate . He then served as a troop doctor in a reserve hospital and at a main first aid station. In 1945 he was released from English captivity as a war disabled and established himself as a general practitioner in the Altbach community.

Professional political and corporate representation

As early as 1946, Häußler was a co-founder of the Geislinger Kreis , which in 1949 became the nucleus of the Baden-Württemberg state association of the re-established Hartmannbund . From 1949 to 1957 he was chairman of the state association and, after he was initially deputy from 1953 to 1959, he was first chairman of the federal association of the Hartmannbund from 1959 to 1963.

From 1957 to 1989 Häußler was the uninterrupted chairman of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in North Württemberg in Stuttgart, of which he subsequently became honorary chairman. On March 2, 1985, Häussler was elected first chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV). On December 3, 1988, he said goodbye to the representative assembly in Cologne.

He had been a member of the Federal Health Council since 1962 , worked in the Federal Committee for Doctors and Health Insurance Funds and in other committees for self-administration by statutory health insurance physicians . In October 1986, Häußler was appointed to the Medical Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs , Section “Health Insurance”, a body that advises the Federal Minister of Labor on medical and scientific issues.

Pioneer of general medicine in Germany

Häussler was an important pioneer of a general medical science-based medicine and a champion of the equal establishment of the subject general medicine at the universities. In 1966, Siegfried Häußler received the teaching assignment "Practical Doctor" from the Medical Faculty of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . This was the first teaching assignment at a university for general practitioner medicine and thus the birth of academic general medicine in Germany. After completing his habilitation in 1968, Häußler was granted the license to teach general medicine at the newly founded University of Ulm , where he was appointed adjunct professor in 1973 .

As chairman of the Association of University Lecturers and Lecturers for General Medicine e. V. Häussler had a formative influence on the establishment of general medicine at universities. At Häussler's urging, the German Medical Association decided in 1968 to include the designation “General Practitioner” in the further training regulations for the first time .

Further social engagement

Häussler was the main initiator of the appeal to take over sponsorships for the daughters and sons of doctors from the former GDR who were studying in the Federal Republic of Germany, which led to the establishment of the Hartmann-Bund foundation “Doctors helping doctors” in 1955, of which he became chairman. In 1976, Häußler was elected chairman of the board of the Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance (ZI), a non-profit foundation of the 18 Statutory Health Insurance Associations and the KBV in Cologne. Also as chairman of the association Rationelle Arztpraxis e. V. (Stuttgart), Häußler was committed and actively involved.

Party political engagement

Häußler was politically active in the CDU , for which he stood in the 1949 federal election in the Eßlingen constituency . With 26.2%, however, he only achieved third place behind Franz Ott (28.0%) the candidate of the “Notgemeinschaft Württemberg-Baden”, an organization for displaced persons, and the social democrat Albert Pflüger (27.0%).
