Sigmund Meyer (born February 6, 1840 in Hanover ; died July 14, 1911 there ) was a German banker .

Life

family

Sigmund Meyer was the son of the banker Adolph Meyer and the grandson of the banker Simon Meyer from a Jewish family.

Career

In 1866, Sigmund Meyer became head of the Adolph Meyer bank, which had already been managed by his grandfather and renamed by his father .

In 1870 Meyer was appointed to the Prussian Kommerzienrat . He was "one of the first to take on the young potash industry in the province of Hanover [...]": Meyer was elected chairman of the supervisory board of the Sigmundshall potash plant named after him . He founded the Wunstorfer Portland-Cementwerke AG located near Wunstorf . Meyer also founded the share sugar factory Linden , which later became the share sugar factory Neuwerk , as well as the Aerzen machine factory .

Meyer played a decisive role in the establishment of the Hoyermann GmbH phosphate factory near Hanover and Nienburg / Weser .

Sigmund Meyer was particularly involved within the Jewish community in Hanover in the “Association for the Promotion of Crafts ”.

His grave can be found in the Jewish cemetery at An der Strangriede .
