Silver perchlorate is a white monovalent silver salt of perchloric acid with the empirical formula AgClO 4 . The compound is commercially available as a monohydrate with the empirical formula AgClO 4 · H 2 O.
Extraction and presentation
Silver perchlorate can be obtained by reacting silver (I) oxide and perchloric acid.
properties
Silver perchlorate is a very hygroscopic, colorless, not very light-sensitive solid. Silver perchlorate is fire-promoting and forms explosive and highly explosive mixtures with reducing agents such as metals , sulfur , sugar and hydrazines .
It is well soluble in water and organic solvents such as benzene , toluene and nitromethane .
