Upper Austrian Association of Artists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Upper Austrian Artists Association is an association of Upper Austrian artists and art lovers based in Linz .

history

The association, which was founded on June 29, 1950, was formed in the post-war period and, thanks to its assistance, provided many artists with a starting point for creative work. The driving force behind the association was Joseph Hieß .

Silver rose

Joseph Hieß also played a major role in the illustrated monthly publication with the title Silberrose - magazine of the protection association - the sheet of the Upper Austrian Artists' Association, which appeared from 1951 onwards . This was discontinued at the end of 1952 with the publication of the double issue 11-12 / 1952. It should be the mouthpiece and common platform of the association.

The focus of the association magazine was on the printing of lyrical works on Christian, traditionalist and nature-loving topics by authors such as Felix Scherr , Anton Wildgans , Franz Karl Ginzkey , Julius Zerzer , Waltraut Oberleitner and Richard Billinger . Prose works originated a. a. by Roderich Müller-Guttenbrunn , Mimi Eckmair-Freudenthaler and Thomas Berger. Apart from the predominantly national orientation, there were also approaches that indicated an opening in terms of content. The author Kurt Klinger was responsible for the youth side . Literature by Franz Kain , Heimrad Bäcker , Vera Ferra-Mikura , Ilse Aichinger , Eduard Christoph Heinisch and Karl Uhl found its way into the magazine.

The non-literary area took up little space in the magazine, but dealt, for example, with the birthday of Hans Pollack , with the exhibition in the gallery of the city of Linz and with the Waldviertler Künstlerbund . A unique rubric on the subject of film consisted of a copy of a conversation with Attila Hörbiger and two poems by Heinrich George .

Sepp Gangl , Joseph Hieß , Leo Landwehr-Pragenau , Hannes Peherstorfer , Anne Peherstorfer-Dürnberger and Erich R. Pfeifer acted as editors .

"The collection"

In 1954 and 1955, the successor organ appeared under the title Die Sammlung - Mitteilungen des Oberösterreichischer Künstlerbund , after having only sent circular letters to members for more than a year. With the double issue 7–8 / 1955, the association's publishing activities ended.

The collection focused on art outside of literature. Nevertheless, there were poems by Siegfried Torggler , Hugo Schanovsky , Ilse Ringler-Kellner , Michael Neumüller , Josef Reinhart , Hugo M. Pachleitner and Hannes Peherstorfer and prose by Adelbert Muhr , Manka Hartig , Kurt Ziesel and Robert Hohlbaum .

Club members and club goal

In the years after its founding, some of the members of the artists' association were among the (former) völkisch-national and partly Nazi -minded authors, which was also reflected in the association newspaper.

The association initially included u. a. Painters , graphic artists , writers and architects . Franz Karl Ginzkey and Robert Hohlbaum were among the most prominent members of the literary circle . The latter was awarded the federal government's highest honor, the Silver Ring of Honor, in 1952. At that time the association consisted of around five hundred members.

The original aim was the presentation of works of art in the Galerie der Mitte in the Volkshaus Dornach-Auhof in Linz as an educational and invigorating contribution to art and culture in Linz and Upper Austria. Works of painting , graphics , printmaking , sculpture ( sculptures , installations, etc.) and literature were shown . There has also been a gallery in Steingasse since 1994.

Later, the artist association concentrated on representatives of the visual arts . The association's goals are achieved with the creation and maintenance of contacts to the University for Artistic and Industrial Design Linz and with the implementation of the annual cultural program. This cultural program includes exhibitions, lectures and discussions on art with art experts, seminars, courses, workshops led by members and author readings.

The Upper Austria. Künstlerbund is one of the Austrian artists' associations organized in an umbrella organization. Karl Emmerich Baumgärtel acted as secretary in the early 1950s .
