Simon Werle
Simon Werle (born June 13, 1957 in Freisen / Saarland ) is a German writer and translator .
Life
Simon Werle graduated from the Arnold-Janssen-Gymnasium in St. Wendel in 1977 . From 1977 to 1983 he studied Romance studies and philosophy at universities in Munich and Paris . Since 1983 he has been translating literary texts from French and, more rarely, from English and ancient Greek . He also publishes his own novels , short stories and plays . Simon Werle lives in Munich .
In 1985 Simon Werle received a literary award from the City of Munich and a prize from the Frankfurt Authors' Foundation , in 1988 the Paul Celan Prize , in 1992 the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize for Translation from the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt , and in 1994 Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres , 2003 the Tukan Prize of the City of Munich, 2017 the Eugen Helmlé Translator Prize and 2020 the Paul Scheerbart Prize .
