Simone Zanchini (* 1973 in San Leo ) is an Italian accordionist who has emerged in jazz and new improvisation music as well as in classical music. He is considered "is one of the most interesting and innovative accordion players on the international scene."

Act

Zanchini completed his studies in classical accordion at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro with Sergio Scappini with distinction. He also built on the achievements of Frank Marocco and Art Van Damme and turned to ethno-jazz . This was followed by intensive concert activity with groups in various genres (improvisation, contemporary music, jazz and classical) and artists such as Gianluigi Trovesi , Javier Girotto , Marco Tamburini , Massimo Manzi , Tamara Obrovac , Paolo Fresu , Antonello Salis , Han Bennink , Bruno Tommaso , Ettore Fioravanti , Mario Marzi ( Milonga del Angel 2008), Michele Rabbia , Bill Evans , Jim Black or Thomas Clausen . Since 1999 he has been working with the soloists of the Scala Orchestra in Milan , with whom he has toured several times around the world. He has also performed at important festivals such as Clusone Jazz, Umbria Jazz , Tivoli Jazz, Sant'Anna Arresi and Siena Jazz .

Zanchini has recorded around 20 albums since 1995, including Bebop Buffet (Wide Sound 2006) in a duo with Frank Marocco. In 2009 he experimented solo on the album Meglio! (Silta Records) he experimented with the tonal possibilities of a midi accordion, live electronics and laptops. He dedicated the album Fuga per Art 5et (Dodici Lune Records, 2009) to his teacher Art Van Damme . For Bassoprofilo (2011) he worked with Giovanni Tommaso and Gabriele Mirabassi . With his album My Accordion's Concept , Zanchini expanded the possibilities of expression of the accordion with radical improvisations for acoustic accordion and live electronics. In 2015 he interpreted the traditional melodies of Secondo Casadei on Casadei Secondo me (Stradivari) with the means of jazz . The album Don't Try This Anywhere borrows from Michael Brecker's Grammy- winning solo album Don't Try This at Home from 1988 and was awarded the Orpheus Prize 2016 for best album of the year in Italy . With the hr big band under the direction of David Grottschreiber , he played film music by Nino Rota in jazz arrangements by Jörg Achim Keller . He plays in the ADRABESA Quartet of the Slovenian saxophonist Vasko Atanasovski .

Zanchini also taught at workshops.
