Sinaida Borisovna Voronina , b. Druzhinina ( Russian Зинаида Борисовна Воронина born Дружинина ; *  December 10, 1947 in Joschkar-Ola , ASSR of Mari , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ; † March 17, 2001 in Balaschikha ) was a Russian- Soviet Olympic champion and artist .

Athletic career

Voronina at the European Gymnastics Championships in 1967

At the age of 20, Sinaida Voronina belonged to the Soviet squad at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City and won the team competition together with Lyubov Burda , Natalja Kutschinskaja , Larissa Petrik , Olga Karassjowa and Lyudmila Turishcheva .

At the gymnastics world championships in 1970 , she won gold again with the Soviet squad. Apart from Tamara Lasakowitsch , who had replaced Natalja Kutschinskaya, the same gymnasts were members of the team as in 1968.

Life after exercise

After finishing her sports career, Voronina worked in a foundry in Balashikha. She died at the age of 53, and one of the reasons for her early death may have been her alcoholism .

Private

Voronina married Mikhail Voronin , an artistic gymnast and Olympic champion from 1968, with whom she had a son Dmitrij (* 1969). The couple separated two years after their son was born. Because of Voronina's alcoholic illness, Mikhail Voronin received custody in 1980.
