Sindbad & Serena - In the Land of the Veil of Fog (Original title: Sindbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists ) is an Indian - American animated film from the year 2000 .

action

The beautiful, young princess Serena dreams of adventures beyond her father's palace. She is the daughter of the good-natured King Chandra, who rules a small, remote island kingdom. One day Serena finds a shipwrecked man on the beach. His only baggage consists of a collection of strange elixirs. She brings the stranger named Baraka, who pretends to be a miracle healer from a distant land, to her father in the castle. Baraka offers King Chandra an elixir to extend life as a thank you for his rescue. Chandra cannot resist the temptation to live longer and actually drinks the remedy. This traps Baraka, who is actually a devious magician. Before Serena's terrified eyes, the magician exchanges bodies with the king. When the princess calls the guard for help, her statements are of course not believed. Serena steals a page from the magician's book of spells and flees the palace through various secret doors from the guards to look for help elsewhere. Baraka, who is now mistaken for the king, has Chandra thrown into dungeon and sentenced to death.

Serena manages to escape the palace guards and ends up in a run-down port tavern. There she makes the acquaintance of the seafarer Sindbad , who saves her from one of his drunken men. Serena asks Sindbad to bring her with his ship behind the veil of mist, as it says on the magician's book page. There the princess hopes to find an antidote for her father and to reverse the body swap. Sindbad, who considers the veil of fog to be a legend, wants to refuse at first. However, he lets himself change his mind when he sees how desperate Serena is and takes her with him on his ship. Baraka, now manages to locate the princess on Sindbad's ship with his magic and tries to prevent Serena from reaching her destination by all means. He conjures up a storm on the high seas, which makes the journey more difficult, and also lets loose a giant octopus and a gargoyle- like flying monster, which can be electrically charged by the thunderstorm , on Sindbad and his crew. After a tough fight, Sindbad manages to connect the flying monster and the giant octopus with a harpoon . The octopus is electrocuted and takes the flying monster with it into the depths of the ocean with its massive body.

Finally the team reaches the legendary veils of fog and actually manages to cross them. Behind the fog, however, the ship ends up in rocky waters with strong currents that end in a large waterfall . When all attempts to pull the ship against the current with a rowing boat fail, Sindbad cuts the connecting rope to the boat so that his crew can get to safety. Shortly before the waterfall, the ship wedges itself between two rocks. Sindbad's last comrade sacrifices his life so that the ship can fall over the cliff as safely as possible. Sindbad and Serena survive the fall, but the ship is completely destroyed. Stranded on a rocky island, Sindbad and Serena now continue their way on foot alone. They get into a dark cave system where they are attacked by a huge, wooden spider . Although they manage to destroy the monster with the help of fire , the spider web floor of the cave also burns in the process . With a daring jump into the depths, the two save themselves and, to their relief, land in the water. There they are picked up by a strange ray-like vehicle that seems to be used for fishing and taken to a grotto-like underwater city.

In the city, Sindbad and Serena meet the builders of the vehicle: strange but peace-loving fish men. In the underwater city, the two find some amazing phenomena such as a field of huge, flying mushrooms , upward flowing water and rotations that seem to create the ocean floor. You get into conversation with the chief sage of the fish men. From this they learn that Baraka also belongs to the people behind the fog veils and is the brother of the sage. In contrast to the other representatives of his race, Baraka always dreamed of supremacy. He found out about King Chandra's kingdom through shipwrecks and decided to go to the surface in order to usurp power there. Sindbad and Serena give the sage an elixir with which they can reverse his brother's body swap. On the back of one of the flying mushrooms, the two come back to the surface and make their way back. Baraka is now on the verge of executing Chandra by falling from a tower. Sindbad and Serena arrive just in time to prevent Chandra's execution at the last second. Sindbad pours the elixir down on Baraka, who then transforms itself back and falls from the tower to his death.

This also gives the king his correct body back. In the end it turns out that Sindbad's crew also managed to escape in the rowboat and survived. Sindbad and Serena, who fell in love during their trip, decide to get married.
