history

Foundation and first EP (2011-2015)

The guitarist / singer Jesse Garon and the bassist Johnny Angel got to know each other through their work on a music project in Hamburg and decided to start all over again with a new band concept. Together with drummer Pätzy Dävey , they founded the band Sloppy Joe's in 2011. The band name is based on a quote from the movie Citizen Kane . The trio's goal was to make show-oriented hard rock . The three musicians were mainly influenced by large rock bands such as B. KISS , Iron Maiden , Black Sabbath and AC / DC . In the early stages, Sloppy Joe's focused solely on making hard rock versions of popular 20th century pop hits. The titles used were u. a. Hot Stuff ( Donna Summer ) and Delilah ( Tom Jones ). In December 2013, the first EP Sloppy Joe's was released , which only contains cover versions. Since the release of the EP, the band has been playing live concerts in Germany continuously.

Eight Reasons to Rock (2016-2018)

In April 2016, Sloppy Joe's released the first completely self-written song Eat Sloppy Joe's as a pre-release single for the album Eight Reasons to Rock , which was released later that year via Timezone . The album consists of cover versions and half of their own songs. With the release of the album, the band played a tour of twelve concerts in autumn 2016, where they also appeared abroad ( Switzerland ) for the first time . In December 2016, the song Eat Sloppy Joe's won first place in an online voting by the music portal Bestmusictalent and a subsequent evaluation by an expert jury made up of experts from the music industry and radio presenters and was named Best Song 2016 .

In 2018 the three musicians fulfilled a dream and played three evenings in a row at the 16th Hamburg Tattoo Convention from March 31 to April 2 in the Hamburg market hall . In a listener vote for the top 50 rock acts from Germany on Radio 21 and Rockland Radio , Sloppy Joe's reached 28th place in May 2018.

Devil's Music (since 2019)

In summer 2019 the band signed a record deal with 7hard, the rock label of the 7us media group. Shortly afterwards, on September 6th, the first single Devil's Music was released, which, in addition to number 11 in the Amazon newcomer charts, also landed directly on Spotify in the rock rotation playlist. The second single The Journey followed on October 11th and even entered the Amazon sales charts at number 3. On October 25th, the album Devil's Music was finally released on CD, vinyl LP and digital download / stream. In addition to three cover versions, the album contains mostly own songs. The tour for the album entitled "Devil's Music Tour" started on December 6th in Hamburg. The other concerts planned for spring and summer 2020 had to be canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

So far, Sloppy Joe's has played more than 100 concerts in live clubs, major events and festivals.
