Sorority Noise is a pop-punk band from Harford , Connecticut, founded in 2013 .
history
First years
Sorority Noise was founded in 2013 in Hartford , Connecticut . The band found their first permanent line-up in the two guitarists and singers Cameron Boucher and Adam Ackerman, as well as bassist Kevin O'Donnell and drummer Jason Rule. After two EPs , Young Luck and Quiet Hours, were released in the founding year - Young Luck was released on cassette via Broken World Media - Ruler and O'Donnell left the band the following year and were replaced by Ryan McKenna on bass and Charlie Singer on drums .
In May 2014, the band's debut album, Forgettable, was released via Dog Knight Productions and Broken World Media. In November followed a split EP with the emo band Somos . A split with Radiator Hospital was also published. After Sorority Noise switched to Topshelf Records , they released their second studio album, Joy, Departed , in June 2015 . At the end of 2015, the group completed a concert tour of the United States and Canada as the opening act for Knuckle Puck . At a performance in February 2016 at Rock City in Nottingham , UK , another EP was announced under the name It Kindly Stopped For Me , which was released in April. Under the title Leaf Ellis / Smoke & Felt , a split single with The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die was released via Triple Crown Records in October of the same year , after the band had already switched to this record company in August . Between October 18 and 25, 2016, Sorority Noise were the opening act for Turnover , which played in the Netherlands and Germany during this period . At the concerts in Berlin and Wiesbaden , both groups were also supported by Milk Teeth . Previously, Sorority Noise completed a concert tour through North America in August and September together with the Menzigers as the opening act for Bayside .
First successes
In March 2017, You're Not As _____ As You Think, the group's third studio album, was released via Triple Crown Records. For the first time it made a chart entry in the US album charts, which are determined by the music magazine Billboard . There the album debuted at number 176 in the week of April 8, 2017 and stayed there for a week. In October of the same year another EP was released with Alone . Five days after the EP was released, a concert tour through the United States and Canada followed , with Sorority Noise supporting Citizen . Before that, the band played three concerts in Australia for the first time in September and October . Between May 22nd and 29th of the same year, the quartet could be seen on mini concert tours in Germany , the Netherlands , Belgium and the United Kingdom , with three appearances in Leeds , Birmingham and Hatfield as part of the Slam Dunk Festival were carried out.
Break
In early March 2018, the group announced an indefinite hiatus after their concerts in the States and the United Kingdom. A month later, the former drummer for the emo band The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die , Nicole Shanholtzer, singer Cameron Boucher, accused of raping a friend on several social networks . Boucher denies the allegations. However, the musicians announced that they would end their tour in the UK with The Wonder Years early.
music
Sorority Noise plays a mixture of indie rock , emo rock from the 1990s, pop-punk and powerpop . The sound is comparable, for example, to Modest Mouse , Manchester Orchestra and Death Cab for Cutie . From time to time elements of post-punk can also be heard.
The lyrics, which are inspired by self-experienced events, are written by singer Cameron Boucher. For example, he processes two deaths in his circle of friends - one suicide and one death from a heroin overdose - and his associated anxiety disorders and depression . On his predecessor Joy, Departed , Boucher musically dealt with his diagnosed bipolar disorder , in other tracks with his Christian faith. Boucher talents such as Will Toledo and John K. Samson are attested.
Side projects
Singer Cameron Boucher, drummer Charlie Singer and guitarist Adam Ackerman play together in the spoken word / emo band Old Gray . This was founded in 2011 by Boucher and Singer, while Ackerman only joined in 2015. The band has released two albums and several EPs so far, as well as numerous split releases.
Boucher also founded his own record company under the name Flower Girl Records , on which he put older works by Sorority Noise, as well as albums of his side project Old Gray and his own music as a solo musician has released.
Ryan McKenna plays guitar and vocalist in the indie rock band Prawn , which was founded in 2008 and has released three albums through Topshelf Records .
