The Southwest Miramichi River is the approx. 195 km long right source river of the Miramichi River in the Canadian province of New Brunswick .

River course

The Southwest Miramichi River arises at the confluence of its two headwaters North Branch and South Branch Southwest Miramichi River at The Forks . It flows in a predominantly east-northeast direction through the counties of Carleton County , York County and Northumberland County . Major towns along the river are Boiestown , Doaktown and Blackville . Major tributaries of the Southwest Miramichi River are the Taxis River (right), Cains River (right), Bartholomew River (left), Renous River (left), and Barnaby River (right).

Hydrology

The river drains an area of ​​approx. 7700 km². The mean discharge at the Blackville gauge 39 km above the estuary is 120 m³ / s. In April and May the river carries the largest amount of water with an average of 330 and 292 m³ / s. The tides are still noticeable at river kilometer 20 at the confluence of the Renous River.

North Branch Southwest Miramichi River

The left headwaters of the Southwest Miramichi River rises at an altitude of 430  m in the south of Victoria County . It flows mainly in a southerly direction. South Branch Southwest Miramichi River

The right headflow of the Southwest Miramichi River runs in northeast Carleton County. The 40 km long river has its source on the west flank of Brighton Mountain at an altitude of 440  m . It initially flows north for 20 km and then turns to the southeast. He passes the village of Juniper .
