The Soviet Socialist Republic of Abkhazia (abbreviated Abkhazian SSR , SSR Abkhazia or SSRA ; Georgian აფხასეთის საბჭოთა სოციალისტური რესპუბლიკა , Russian Социалистическая Советская Республика Абхазия ) was a union republic of the Soviet Union on the territory of modern Abkhazia (an autonomous republic of Georgia ) of 31 March 1921 to 19 February 1931.
history
The Abkhazian Soviet Socialist Republic was founded on March 28, 1921 at a joint meeting of the Caucasian Office of the Communist Party of Russia and the Central Committees of the Communist Party of Abkhazia and the Communist Party of Georgia . When the Transcaucasian SFSR was formed, it was treated on the same level as the Georgian state itself as an equal part of the federation.
Abkhazia and Georgia had agreed a special relationship in December 1921, a so-called contract status ( Russian Dogowor ), which was valid until 1931.
In 1931, the Abkhazian Soviet Socialist Republic became the Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic .
