Sociopath is the first solo album by German rapper Hollywood Hank . It was released on December 11, 2006 via Rapz Records. The re-release was released on December 6, 2011 via Selfmade Records . Due to its raw beats and explicit lyrics, the album is now considered a classic in German rap, especially in German horror score .

background

Hollywood Hank, born Sven Pingel, grew up in Prenzlauer Berg in East Berlin . Since the neo-Nazi scene was particularly strong in eastern Germany and Pingel's best friend at the time was a boy of African descent , he often had serious problems with neo-Nazis. This went so far that one day Pingel was mistreated by them with nettles, which resulted in depression and recurring nightmares. A little later, when Pingel moved to the country, he often came into conflict with neo-Nazis, which led to Pingel becoming a loner and provocateur. Since Pingel, according to his own statements, was not violent and therefore did not manage to take out his pent-up aggression physically on other people, he began to express his violence and revenge fantasies, which were particularly due to the confrontations with neo-Nazis, but also with the bad relationship originated by his parents to write down and a little later, under the character Hollywood Hank, created by him, to bring to the public.

At the beginning of 2003, Hank registered with the Reimliga Battle Arena (RBA for short) and was able to gain a high profile there within a very short time, which ultimately led to an East German label called Rapz-Records becoming aware of him and finally signing him in 2006 took.

Until the album was completed, Hank stayed out of the public eye for the most part and only released a few freetracks on rappers.in and guest posts on JAW albums before finally announcing the release of Sociopath in late 2006 . At the end of 2006, the long-awaited album Soziopath was finally released.

production

The album was almost entirely produced by Hollywood Hank himself. Only the music for the song Ostdeutschland was produced by Sh1kane. Hank used the Fruity Loops program to produce the album and the Sony Vegas program for editing . Especially for the album are the many samples, mostly movie quotes, that are included in almost every song. The album features passages from films such as Sin City , Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Misanthrope , but also music samples, for example from the song The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson .

content

Texts

In terms of content, a large part of the songs on Sociopath revolves around Hank's drug use, perverse sexual preferences, godlessness and a sexist and violence-glorifying attitude. The rapper also alludes to National Socialism, which is clear from lines like "Bitch was going on, I'm Hitler's son". The rapper uses the rap sub-genre of horrorcore rap particularly often and insults, as is normal for the genre, more or less well-known rappers, especially Eko Fresh (eg: «[...] I sing Eko is a joke [...] ] "), Curse (for example:" [...] pierce Curse until he flies around like an astronaut. ") And Bushido (for example:" Like Bushido I have a ghostwriter [...] ") . However, individual hip-hop labels such as B. Aggro Berlin ("My logo is not a saw blade, my logo is a swastika.") Or Eimsbush ("Box you and you crumble like the Eimsbush Klan.") Mention. In general, the rapper often makes use of names in the rap genre on the album and communicates his resulting displeasure with German rap. He describes himself on the album as the "only doping German rapper [...]" and generalizes rap by calling it "gay" and "shit".

In addition, as is usual with battle rap, Hank addresses his superiority over the competition (“You can rap, but you can't compare yourself to me because your tracks are mostly embarrassing like tribals”) and accuses them of a commercial stance, whereby the comparison with prostitutes is particularly often drawn ("[...] but you get fucked in your ass for some cash."). In contrast, the artist defends himself and, despite his popularity at the time, still describes himself as "underground" ("[...] I am Germany's last underground hope").

The song Ostdeutschland (feat. Discipline) is an exception in terms of content for sociopath , as it deals with the negative circumstances in the new federal states . Furthermore, the East German patriotism in verses like "This is for my homeland, this is for the East, this is for people with hope and pride."

The four skits also stand out from the rest of the album because, unlike the other songs, they are not from Hollywood Hank's point of view and thematically deal with social grievances and perverse sexual preferences :

The first Skit Feinschmecker is about cannibalism and the precise description of the cannibal, how he looks for and dissects his victims. (“I thank you God, for night vision devices, between night and fog I don't need any strength to kill my favorite food - Zack! - and done and you wake up in a daze - naked in a cage yelling:“ Please let me live! "See the hammer there - a few tactical blows are enough because of weak tissue until the skull bursts, then I'll chop you up with an ax or saw.")

The skit Kinderliebe is from the point of view of a five-year-old girl ("stop crying, a big girl doesn't whine"), who is raped by her father and because of her ignorance does not know exactly what is happening ("[...] we sit face to face Face to face, Susi is scared, while I almost crush her hand: "Please, please don't!", I hold my sister's hand tighter and tighter, but Daddy is so strong that he pulls me away: "It's okay good my angel, I love you too! "and dad lays me on the bed and then he undresses.").

The third Skit death of the divorce is from the point of view of a widowed man who digs up his wife, who committed suicide three weeks earlier ("But now we are reunited, again as a couple, never alone again. A token of love Mouse, you see that way sweet in your dress. Even deep in the crypt you can still smell your lovely scent, but why are you so quiet? Say something, come and give me a kiss ")

The last Skit Internet star is from the point of view of an outsider who kidnaps people and uses them for snuff films ("Bitch be quiet, haven't you noticed that I don't show any sympathy. Midlife crisis or not, meanwhile you know [... ] that you won't leave this room alive, look, your mum has pulled out all the stops. But the basement is tight, they can't find their way out, whimpering allowed, but if you don't stop screaming, I'll tear it for you Vocal cords out. ")

technology

The complex rhyme schemes are particularly noticeable: in addition to many internal rhymes, the rapper almost consistently uses polysyllabic assonant-sounding noun rhymes, which was rather rare in hip-hop until then. Here's an example:

“I am the son of unreasonableness and science
and a weapon of underground destruction .
When I come, you'd better have an accident insurance file .
And you look very relaxed Schlagerparade ,
because your bitch gets grade on the varicose vein massage "

- Hollywood Hank : God give you wings

In addition, the rapper makes use of many comparisons and metaphors, which he uses on the one hand to humiliate his rivals and on the other to depict certain situations more precisely. Example: ("[...] fingering your bitch is like feeding squid.").

Flow

The rapper's flow on the album is also special. The rapper's flow is almost completely based on his rhymes and flow variations are no exception on the album. Here the rapper makes particular use of the double time technique; means he raps at twice the speed of the beat. In the second part of Hart aber Herzlos , Hank uses the triplet technique, while in Introverts he sometimes uses halftime, a rap technique in which you rap half as fast as the BPM number of the beat.

The variations are also characterized by the fact that Hank often changes his voice during the album and adapts to the atmosphere or theme of the respective song. According to his own statements, he wanted to be the opposite of most of the other rappers, who mostly try not to change their voices in their songs and therefore sound monotonous.

marketing

In the run-up to the album, Hollywood Hank went on a ten-concert tour, called the Hardcore Unterwegs Tour 2006 , on which he also performed Frauenarzt , King Orgasmus One and JAW . A limited concert DVD was released for the tour, which is no longer available due to the dispute between Rapz Records and Hollywood Hank.

Also shortly before that, a video was shot for the song Introvert , which shows Hank together with an unknown person in an empty apartment. In addition, Hollywood Hanks' old RBA rounds were released for free download by Rapz Records .

illustration

The cover shows a photo of Hank with a naked lower body standing behind a sheep, which is very likely to allude to the sodomic and generally very controversial lyrics of the album. The photo is held in place by a clip and has a blood stain on the left edge. On the right edge is Hardcore Entertainment presents: Hollywoodsfinest Ted Bundy in white letters and Sociopath under the photo .

Republication

The Düsseldorf label Selfmade Records acquired the rights for sociopath . The album then appeared on December 6, 2011 as a re-release in the Selfmade Records Shop. At the same time, an information video appeared in which the Essen rapper Favorite u. a. Hank explained the current situation of Hollywood and pointed out that the sale of the Sociopath CD and related merchandise in the self-made records shop has started. According to Favorite, the sales proceeds went to Hollywood Hank, who has not appeared musically or publicly for a long time. Favorite also started a return campaign for Hollywood Hank through a fan page on Facebook.

In addition to the self-made records shop, the album has also been available on iTunes since December 16, 2011.

criticism

The album received mostly positive reviews.

  • The website HipHop-Jam.net gave the album 5 out of a possible 5 mics:

What happens if you reduce the Insane Clown Posse to one person, let them rap in German and at an extremely high technical level? No idea? Here is the answer: Hollywood Hank. In addition to his serial killer pseudonym Hollywoodsfinest Ted Bundy, Hollywood Hank has brought up a lot of guns on his album and finally shows the lack of ideas horrorcore scene in Germany where to go. "

  • The website rappers.in gave the album 8 out of 10 points:

Hardcore entertainment. These two words run like a red thread through the first work of the East German rapper Hollywood Hank. Hardcore Entertainment is basically the most apt description of the 'Sociopath' album. On a total of 20 tracks, the listener is taken into the sick world of the newcomer, which consists largely of drugs, alcohol and sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, of course, one or the other mother is fucked as well as at least a double-digit number of gay German rappers. Accompanied by various film quotes and with one exception specially produced beats, 100% of the Hollywood Finest program is run. The very mysterious intro introduces the first battle tracks, in which Hollywood makes its attitude clear. "
