The SpVgg Burgbrohl is a German sports club from the municipality of Burgbrohl in the Ahrweiler district . The soccer team of the SpVgg made it into the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar in the 2012/13 season .

history

The club was launched under the name Sportvereinigung 04/13 Burgbrohl eV . The name suggests that the club's roots consist of several regional sports clubs, including the Burgbrohl gymnastics club, which was founded on March 13, 1904. Günter Sachse became the first chairman of the association at the time.

The gymnastics club's first practice hours took place in Strang , a smaller hall in Burgbrohl. Later they moved to the Kaiserhalle. As the membership grew steadily, a gym was built, which proved to be a problem. A former power station was converted into a gym.

In addition to the gymnastics club, there was also a handball club at that time , which was quite successful at the beginning. In 1929 the handball team won the Gaume Championship.

Another founding club was the Burgbrohl Football Association , which was brought into being on March 2, 1913 from a merger of the black-white and red-white Burgbrohl teams. Both clubs had only been active for a year at the time. The soccer team was initially headed by Johann Klein and later Ernst Kötter. Under the latter, there was a positive upswing in the football department. The association had almost 120 members. Even if the club was able to celebrate many regional successes, there were also several problems, for example the construction of a sports field turned out to be particularly difficult. It was not until 1927 that the local community acquired a site in the Gleesbachtal and made it available to the association. The first sports field was built by the athletes themselves. In 1935 Josef Rick took over the chairmanship of the football club. A year later, they merged with the Burgbrohl gymnastics club to form the Burgbrohl sports association .

After the Second World War , which led to some problems, the club was promoted to the district league. In addition, the club founded other sports departments.

On December 1, 1952, a ski department was founded, which at the time it was founded consisted of 46 athletes. Paul Frank was the first chairman of the ski department. Just 4 months later, the athletics department was created from the ski department, which took part in the German all- around championships and in 1961 took 9th place at these championships.

In August 1967 a new sports field was built in Gleeser Straße, which further improved the sporting conditions of the club. Due to the lack of willingness of the people in the region and the small number of suitable trainers, both the ski and the athletics department are no longer represented in the club.

In 1970, Heinz Dünchel and Dieter Kensbock founded an old-man football department , which helped the club out with the construction of the club house on the newly built sports field.

On January 2, 1972, the SpVgg founded a volleyball team . The first chairman was Roland Moll, who was replaced by Rudi Novotny one year after taking up his post. Initially, the volleyball team trained and played in the gym of the local secondary school. The Brohltalsporthalle was built in 1992 and the hall was inaugurated in November of the same year. The volleyball department currently has two men's and two women's teams that actively participate in championship games. The men's team celebrated its greatest success in the 2009 season with promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest . The first men's team is currently playing in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saarland.

In 1973 the SG Brohltal was founded from the soccer teams of SpVgg Burgbrohl, TuS Niederoberweiler and SV Glees. The former SpVgg chairman Karl-Josef Weiler took over the chairmanship. His successor Wener Grail heads the association to this day. Since it was founded in 1973, SG Brohltag has been promoted from the district league to the Rhineland league , in which the club played until the 2012/13 season. The SV Glees left the club shortly after the composition, so that you could only celebrate first successes in youth work. It wasn't until 1993 that the association achieved its breakthrough thanks to the help of a development association. As a result, the club rose from the C-class (11th division) to the Rhineland League. In 2003 they were able to cooperate with SC Wassenach and they played under the name SG Brohltal / Wassenach. At the time, the club was already playing in the Rhineland League. One slipped just past the promotion to the Oberliga Südwest (at that time still the fourth highest division). On June 30, 2008, the syndicate broke up again by mutual agreement of both clubs. Since the 2008/09 season the club has been playing again under the name SpVgg Burgbrohl . The 2009/10 season was mixed for the first team. In the league, the club was threatened with relegation to the district league , in the Rhineland Cup, on the other hand, they made it into the cup final, which they lost 2-1 to Eintracht Trier and thus could not participate in the DFB Cup . The club was ultimately able to prevent relegation, so that you could play in the Rhineland League in the 2010/11 season. For the 2012/13 season, the former coach of SG Bad Breisig , Klaus Adams, moved to SpVgg Burgbrohl.

On May 12, 2013, the club was able to perfect the championship after a 3-1 win against FSV Trier-Tarforst and thus promotion to the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar . After the club lost to SC Hauenstein (0: 4) and SC 07 Idar-Oberstein (2: 4) on the first two match days , SpVgg Burgbrohl was able to win against SV Röchling Völklingen 2: 0 on the third match day celebrate the first three points of their league history. Due to a constant performance in the second half of the season, the club was able to hold the class early. After 34 match days, SpVgg Burgbrohl finished tenth in the table with 43 points.

For the 2016/17 season there was a complete upheaval in the team, the newly formed team proved to be not competitive and had only scored one point in 19 games with a goal difference of 8:64 until the winter break. During the winter break, almost the entire squad then left the club, but the game was not deregistered in order to prevent both a fine from the association and claims for damages by league competitors. In addition, the second team played in the district league C for the championship, a withdrawal of the first team would have meant a new start in the district league D. Instead, the club went on with regional league players in the major league. The 15 games of the second half ended with a balance of zero points with a goal difference of 1: 210. After the season, the first team was withdrawn from the game and has played in the district league B ever since.

Other departments

In 1980, the Radsportfreunde founded a department under the name Radsportfreunde Brohltal . The first department head who managed the entire structure and coordinated it with the chairman of the SpVgg Erwin Röth was Dieter Kensbock. In the meantime, cycling fans also have many members. With the Brohl Valley bike tour you organize one of the largest sporting events in the Brohl Valley .

The athletics department, which was successful until the 1960s, was revitalized in 2006. From the Rhineland championships to the German youth championships, many dozen championship titles have been fought for. The athletes of SpVgg Burgbrohl were successful in walking, running, all-around, cross-country running, obstacle course, hurdle sprint, sprint, javelin, hammer and discus throw as well as in the high jump. Department head is Peter Rübenach and trainer of the competitive sports group Hermann Krischer.

The badminton department is currently still a purely amateur team.

Membership situation today

While there was an increase in membership when the gymnastics association was founded, the importance of gymnastics in the region is now decreasing in the traditional division of the sports association. Nevertheless, the gymnastics club has the most members. Even if the importance of gymnastics in the region is significantly less, the women's gymnastics and youth and children's gymnastics department are very popular.
