Spielberg is a district and a cadastral municipality of the municipality of Melk in the Melk district in Lower Austria .
history
Spielberg originally belonged to the Wolfstein-Aggswald lordship , which was a Bavarian fiefdom and was awarded to Afterlehner , including the Kuenringers in Spielberg and, as their successors, the Maissauer . Wolfstein was also the location of the district court of the Maissauer, who ran it until they were disempowered in 1430. Then Wolfstein and thus also Spielberg went to the Tursen von Tierstein, later after several changes to Ludwig von Starhemberg and finally, in the course of the Counter-Reformation, initially provisionally to the Göttweig and Melk monasteries , whereby the Melk monastery especially in Spielberg acquired and donated its manorial position could expand, even if the place was still subordinate to the regional court Wolfstein.
