St-Béat (Épône)
The church Saint-Béat is a Romanesque church in the town of Épône in the Yvelines department in the region Ile-de-France ( France ), which in the 10th century in a deed is mentioned. It is located on the slopes of the Mauldre Valley , not far from the Seine . The church has been a listed building ( Monument historique ) since 1909 .
history
The present church of Épône, the holy Beatus ordained , was built in the mid-12th century. The rectangular choir was renewed in the 13th century and a chapel was added to the south of the nave in the 16th century . Extensive changes were made between 1865 and 1871: the nave windows were enlarged, the north portal was given a vestibule and a sacristy was added on the south side . The top of the bell tower was also renewed. In 2003/2004 the interior of the church was renovated.

Exterior construction
The single-nave nave is framed by side chapels and opens directly into the choir without a transept. The round arch portal on the west side is covered by a gable and four columns set into the garment support the two archivolts . Like the north portal, both from the 12th century, the west portal does not have a tympanum .
The two-story bell tower is in the north of the ship. The second floor has an octagonal floor plan. A column is set in each corner and eight arched openings are let into it. A cornice in the shape of a mask separates the floors.
inner space
The nave, which was never vaulted, was given a keel-shaped wooden ceiling in the 16th century. The chapel, which was built on the northern side in the 19th century, leads to the basement of the bell tower, which has a ribbed vault . This is possibly the oldest part of the church.
