Parish church St. Johannis in Herpf

The St. John's Church is the Evangelical Lutheran parish church of the parish in Herpf , a district of the southern Thuringian district town of Meiningen . The church belongs to the Stepfershausen parish in the Meiningen parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM).

history

The church was built in the 15th century and is named St. John's Church in a deed of donation from 1474. It is at the center of a medieval village mounting whose dating from the 13th century keep you rebuilt the church tower and extended with a church. From 1611 to 1620 the church interior was replaced by a hall. A building inscription above the south entrance shows the names of their architects, Hans Tholl and Hans Motz. In 1963 the interior of the church was renovated. The gold-plated tower button and the weather vane above it on the 46 meter high church tower were restored by Michael Neumann in 2011.

Church interior

A wooden painted barrel vault spans the church interior . The two-storey galleries, which run around three sides, are supported by round wooden columns and, like the pulpit, date from the time it was built. The beam heads of the lower galleries, but also the consoles of the belt arches, are decorated with so-called Swedish heads, carved male and female busts in Renaissance costumes. In 1722, during the peasant baroque era , the church interior was given further splendid furnishings and the choir in the base of the tower was given an altar decorated with figures.

organ

A previous organ from 1668 by Johann Moritz Weise (1632–1704, Gotha ) came to Seeba (Rhönblick ) in 1760 , rebuilt by master organ builder Johann Caspar Rommel (1721–1800) from Roßdorf / Rhön . He built a baroque instrument with 21 registers and 2 manuals and pedal for Herpf , which was restored in 1999 by Orgelbau Hoffmann .
