St. Mary's Chapel

The former Catholic St. Mary's Chapel , built between 1903 and 1904, is located at Letteallee 82–86 in the Reinickendorf district of Berlin in the district of the same name . It is a listed building . The building is now being used for other purposes.

history

For 1892, founded the parish of St. Mary of the plans was to Oranienburger master builder W. Dassler on the property Letteallee 86 first the rectory with the chapel built. August Kaufhold designed a neo-Gothic church for the neighboring, then undeveloped property at Letteallee 82–84 , the bell tower of which was to be 70 m high. However, this plan was discarded, St. Marien was created elsewhere.

Building description

The two-wing building complex , one with red bricks deluded masonry construction , consists of the two-storey, with a gable roof covered vicarage with office and home, on the road and the backward-lying, single-storey section of the building with a flat roof, where the chapel continues. The building is attached to the closed development on one side. The facade has gabled risalits on the side of the central front . On the ground floor, the segment-arched windows , which also run along the west side of the chapel, are covered with pointed arches. The upper floor and the gable of the risalite have ogival windows. A cornice runs below each window, and a frieze in the middle section under the eaves . The nave of the small hall church was divided into three naves by supports . In the breadth of the central nave was a rectangular choir , adjacent to it was the sacristy .
