St. Cyriakus (Bauerbach)
The Catholic parish church of St. Cyriakus is a listed church building in Bauerbach , a district of Marburg in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district ( Hesse ).
History and architecture
The massive, late-Gothic , well-fortified choir tower with a high pointed spire and four guard houses was built in the 15th century. The church originally stood on a fortified cemetery, from which remains of the fortified wall are still preserved. In the choir of the tower a ribbed vault rests on corner services . The nave, which is essentially Romanesque , was renewed around 1690. It was expanded and vaulted at the same time from 1920 to 1921 through a western extension in neo-Gothic forms. The ceiling was provided with Rabitz . The width of the church corresponded to today's central nave . In 1978 the central nave was demolished and rebuilt, and the two side aisles were added . Only the gallery of the old church remained. The new organ has stood on this since September 1993 . The tabernacle in the choir and the old altar table, on which a neo-Gothic high altar was placed, have been preserved in their original form. It is not known which relics the reliquary stone contains. The equipment includes a radiation monstrance from the 18th century.
