Monument description

The property is located immediately northwest of the confluence of Bergstrasse and Hohenzollernstrasse. Roughly west-east oriented, two-choir building in a basilica floor plan with a high central nave under a gently sloping hipped roof , flanked by a low aisle each under a sloping pent roof . Recessed choir with apse in the west, leading into the sacristy or rectory on the north side . East choir with organ gallery and laterally pushed tower over a square floor plan with main portal and arched vestibule.

On three sides of the tower two high arched windows, designed as acoustic arcades; structured by flat, stepped pilaster strips leading into arched wall templates . On the north side, five offset sound openings, one above the other, which lead into the shaft cross rising above the ridge . The tower is covered by a gently sloping gable roof . A second entrance is located in the western choir area.

The central nave is illuminated and structured by narrow, high arched windows, the side aisles by arched windows. In the east choir eleven high arched windows on the upper floor, very small arched windows on the ground floor, barred vertical rectangular windows in the basement. The façades are structured by the rhythmic arrangement of the windows and the interposed pilaster strips that lead over into arched wall templates. This motif is repeated below the eaves edge , where a circumferential, offset, double decorative band made of round arch friezes is arranged. The central nave closed by a wooden flat ceiling, the side aisles by groin vaults . The choir is flanked by freely indented arches, which take up the order of the small arched windows on the outer wall in the upper aisle . The apse is closed to the west by a cone .

The building was entered under No. H 058 on August 17, 1994 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .
