St. Georg (Kulm)
The Protestant village church of St. Georg stands in the district of Kulm high above the town of Saalburg in the municipality of Saalburg-Ebersdorf in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .
history
The church was founded in 1223 . The cemetery wall and bars as well as iron fittings on doors and windows are reminiscent of a fortified church . In 1628, during the Thirty Years War , the church was fortified for defense. A porch was installed at the entrance.
Furnishing
The nave is designed in color, but a strict-looking room. Over 40 biblical pictures are painted on the ceiling and galleries , surrounded by simple painting and small carvings of ornaments and flowers.
Four pictures had to give way to the organ in the gallery. In the choir , twelve pictures are dedicated to the story of the passion .
In the apse there is a small altar shrine with the coronation of Mary , St. Anne , John the Baptist , Catherine and Barbara .
The pulpit is to the right of the triumphal arch .
Originally baptisms took place in Saalburg, which turned out to be cumbersome. Therefore, citizens donated the baptismal font made of alabaster and the crown made of wood from 1684–1686 .
particularities
The confessional from a bygone era was kept. The believers from Wernsdorf still come to Kulm. Raila now has its own church.
