The village church of St. Jakobus is in the municipality of Milda in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

location

Milda is one of the highest points in the district west of Dürrengleina . The village church with its defensive character is located at the eastern entrance to the village on the connecting road from the Saale valley to the Blankenhain - Bad Berka area and beyond.

The church stands on a rectangular cemetery with a defensive wall and four former defensive towers , only one of which has survived. Two slits can still be seen in the wall .

Church

The original Romanesque hall church received in the 13./14. Century a square choir tower and around 1500 an originally two-storey sacristy with a groin vault and an ossuary with barrel vault in the basement. Most of the filled-in basement is now below ground level, so that only the upper arch can be seen from the entrance. The annex also served as a crypt for a local noble family. The entrance to the sacristy from the outside was only broken into the masonry in 1907. After a fire in 1793, the mansard roof was rebuilt from 1795 to 1799. On the south side, walled-up Romanesque arched windows and a horizontal construction joint point to the previous church.

tower

The church tower with its massive vaulted concrete barrel on the ground floor has a curved dome and a lantern with a weather vane and stamped year 1882.

ship

The hall of the nave has surrounding two-storey galleries and a flat ceiling . The round arched triumphal arch was also added during the renovation.

Rededication

After eight years of fighting sponges for 260,000 euros, the parish celebrated its re-consecration in 2011. Former Bishop Roland Hoffmann carried it out.
