The Catholic Church of St. Johannes Evangelist is located at Waldstrasse 11 in Berlin-Adlershof . The nave was built in 1974 based on a design by the construction department of the Caritas Association. The church belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Antonius von Padua (Berlin-Oberschöneweide) in the Archdiocese of Berlin .
history
The church services of the community were first celebrated in a small chapel on the mezzanine floor of the residential building of a furniture manufacturer. In 1927 the building was acquired by the community and converted into a community center by Josef Bachem . A church room for about 140 people was created. The building, which was partially destroyed in the Second World War , was confiscated by the Soviet military administration and the church furnishings were destroyed. In 1974 the community center was supplemented by an extension with the church hall.
St. Johannes Evangelist has been a branch church of St. Anthony of Padua in Oberschöneweide since 2003 . The church is also used by the Ukrainian parish of St. Nicholas.
Building description
The nave, which is covered with a flat gable roof, is attached to the rectory. On the gable side facing the street there is a shelter with the portal . The long sides have wide ribbon windows. In the main window at the height of the altar area the parish patron John the Evangelist is shown. The crucifix , the tabernacle and the Stations of the Cross in 1977 created Werner Nickel. The organ was manufactured in 1982 by Alexander Schuke Potsdam Orgelbau . It has a manual , a pedal and 7 registers . A bell bearer with two bells stands in the courtyard. The residential building serves as a rectory . The parish hall is on the ground floor.
