Church of St. John the Baptist in Adelsried

The Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist in Adelsried , a municipality in the Augsburg district in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was built between 1733 and 1735. The church dedicated to John the Baptist at Kirchgasse 2 is a protected architectural monument .

history

The parish church of Adelsried was incorporated into the Heilig Kreuz monastery in Augsburg in 1312 . In 1621 the monastery came into the possession of the entire village. From 1404 until its dissolution in 1484, the neighboring hamlet of Engelshof was its own parish and since 1485 it has been a parish to Adelsried as a branch. After the church was demolished in 1733, with the exception of the tower, the new baroque building was built by the cathedral master builder Johann Paulus from Augsburg. Master mason Johann Off from Adelsried and master carpenter Hans Reitstätter were involved in the construction. The consecration took place on October 10, 1735. In 1773 the interior was redesigned in the Rococo style. The cemetery surrounding the church was abandoned in 1970. A renovation took place in 2010/11.

description

The hall with a slightly drawn-in choir closed on three sides is covered in the nave by a basket-arched stitch cap.

Furnishing

inside view

The band and foliage stucco presumably come from Andreas Hainz. The frescoes by Johann Georg Lederer from 1733 depict the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in the choir and the baptism of Christ, the banquet of Herod and John the Baptist in the nave . The high altar, the pulpit and the choir stalls date from the time it was built. The side altars were added in 1752/53. The font is from the late 16th century. A late Gothic statue of St. Nikolaus, created around 1480/90, probably comes from the church in the hamlet of Engelshof, which no longer exists.
