The church of Oberthulba

The parish church of St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic church in Oberthulba , a market in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen .

The church is one of the architectural monuments of Oberthulba and is registered together with the sandstone cross in front of the church under the number D-6-72-139-5 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

Oberthulba originally belonged to the parish Euerdorf and in 1571 became an independent parish. The church was built from 1854 in place of a previous building. The church tower was built in 1464 and in 1608 its upper floors were built in the post-Gothic style of Julius Echter . In 1953 the architect Erwin van Aaken redesigned the interior of the church. The interior, which became very sober as a result, was upgraded a little again in the 1980s.

Description and equipment

The large nave with choir is built north of the four-story church tower. The choir has a crucifixion group . Large figures of Saints Joseph , Paul (?), Sebastian and Boniface were placed on the southern wall , opposite Jesus and Saints Peter , Wendelin (?) And Maria . Other figures of different sizes can be seen on the side altars (including St. Mary on the right again) and above the side doors (including St. George on the left ). The church also contains three priestly graves , on the north wall of Johann Aegidius Röttinger; † 1793, and Christoph Büttner; † 1811. The third tomb on the southern wall possibly relates to Christoph Heck; † 1692. In the small chapels at the back on the north and south sides there is a Pietà and a collection of relics .

organ

The organ with 37 registers was installed in 2002 by Hey in Urspringen. It is a slide organ with a mechanical action mechanism and an electrical stop action mechanism.

Peal

The chime contains three very old bells . With the purchase of a new bell, which probably bears the name of the church patron, it was expanded to four bells. Based on tables (estimated values) it can be assumed that it is a "Parsifal motif".
