The church was first mentioned in a document in 1231, when it came into the possession of the Premonstratensian monastery in Dortmund along with the estate of the Counts of Dassel . A large neo-Gothic basilica as an extension to the west adjoins the two-bay , Romanesque hall church with a square choir bay . The basilica with a polygonal choir was built from 1904 to 1906 according to plans by Paul Jordan and Arnold Spanke. The old building now looks like an annex . A tall, rectangular tower stands between the old and the new building . The former Romanesque west tower was removed for the extension. The quarry stone walls of the old church are structured by high arched windows and a simple stepped south portal at the choir. The five-sided apse is structured by pointed blind arches , arched friezes and pilaster strips . The south side of the basilica is higher because of a mezzanine floor ; it is designed as a front side with transverse roofs. The tower, held in romanized forms, is crowned with a ridge turret on the gable roof. The domed ridge vaults in the two square central nave bays of the old building were renewed in 1906. Barrel vaults were drawn into the very narrow side yokes . There are narrow passages behind the pillars. There are columns at the corners of the choir bay, and the apse is round on the inside. The mud plaster was renewed in 1954 based on findings. Remains of a wall painting from the 15th century have been preserved on the northern choir pillar . The wide, asymmetrical space of the new building is even less related to the old church than the exterior. There is a gallery above the south aisle .

Furnishing

  • The small Flemish altarpiece from the first quarter of the 16th century may have come from the Dortmund Franciscan Church, which was closed in 1805. It was acquired in the 19th century and restored in 1956/57.
  • An altarpiece from the time after 1700, in which there is a crescent moon Madonna , which was later recast .
  • The Pietà was made around 1420.
  • The depiction of Anna herself third from the middle of the 15th century was added later.
  • The crucifixion group dates from the middle of the 15th century.
  • The organ was installed by the Walcker company in 1906 and modified in 1972.
  • The tower has four bells. The two large bells cis' and e 'are made of cast steel and were created in 1924 by the Bochumer Verein , the small bell (a') was cast in a workshop in Dortmund in 1506. Bell III (g ') was cast from special bronze by Albert Junker in Brilon in 1946.
