St. Joseph is the Catholic church in Schöppenstedt , a town in the Wolfenbüttel district in Lower Saxony . The church located at Neuen Straße 6 is a branch church of the parish " St. Petrus " with its seat in Wolfenbüttel in the diocese of Hildesheim . "St. Joseph “is the easternmost church in the dean's office in Braunschweig, its catchment area includes the town of Schöppenstedt and the communities of Dahlum , Kneitlingen , Uehrde , Vahlberg , Dettum , Hedeper and Remlingen-Semmenstedt .

After the Reformation had prevailed in Schöppenstedt in the 16th century , the population was largely Evangelical-Lutheran. It was not until around the middle of the 19th century that Catholics began to settle again in Schöppenstedt due to the beginning of industrialization and the construction of the railway. From 1908, the parish in Wolfenbüttel held a Catholic service in the Schöppenstedter Gasthaus “Deutscher Kaiser”. In 1920 an emergency church was built in Schöppenstedt, and the town got its own priest in Lothar Greve .

Architecture and equipment

The east-facing church is around 110 meters above sea level . Its interior is closed off by a flat ceiling and seats 96 visitors. The sanctuary is dominated by a crucifixion group .
