The St. Kilian branch church is a place of worship in the Schnepfenbach district of Dettelbach in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The church is in the center of St. Kilian Street and belongs to the Catholic Dean's Office in Kitzingen .

history

The planning of a church in the small village Schnepfenbach did not begin until the 19th century. The architect from Dettelbach, Georg Bischof, was selected. In 1858 the foundation stone was laid for the church on Schnepfenbacher Hauptstraße, which was named after the church patron, St. Kilian . The blessing took before Franz Josef Löffler on June 9 1,862th

In 1870 a sacristy was added to the church building. Major storm damage in the year was only repaired a few years later. In 1968 , the church roof was renovated for the first time, and in 1977 an interior renovation was carried out. The congregation renovated the interior again in 1986 and the exterior in 1994. The church is a registered monument .

architecture

The church was built from rubble stones in the neo-Romanesque style and is stone-sighted. It is not faces east , but faces west. The plain hall building has a four-sided roof turret on which the bells hang. The nave has two window axes. There is an ox-eye below the ridge .

Bells

The peal of Kilian's Church consists of two bells. The oldest is from the 16th century, it is unclear how it got to the church. During the Second World War , the second, younger bell had to be handed in to be melted down. In the post-war period, the bell could be completed again.

Further equipment

The church had a neo-Gothic high altar until the liturgical renewal after the Second Vatican Council . Only one figure of St. Kilian from 1887 has survived. In 1964 a sandstone folk altar was erected in place of the old reredos . There is a tabernacle and a simple crucifix above the choir head .

In the nave there is a figure of Our Lady. The church's organ has seven registers. The church windows were created by the Würzburg artist Johannes Freund.
