The Church of the Assumption in Neusetz

The branch church of the Assumption of Mary and St. Kilian, Kolonat and Totnan (in the 19th and 20th centuries also St. Valentin) is the Catholic church in Neusetz , a district of Dettelbach in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The church stands at the intersection of Sulzhofer Weg and Prosselsheimer Straße and belongs to the Kitzingen dean's office .

history

For a long time there was no church in Neusetz. The parish attended the service in the Bartholomäuskirche in nearby Prosselsheim . In the 18th century the community had grown to such a size that those responsible decided to build a church on the outskirts. The village Lord, hochstiftische Office Prosselsheim, chose the architect Peter and Adam Knab from the city of Volkach .

On May 13, 1766, the foundation stone for the church was laid. The church was consecrated just a year later. The Escherndorfer priest Josef Valentin Vornberger benedizierte it on 18 November 1767. Nearly a century later, in 1855, the church had become ruinous and had to be renovated from 1856 to 1857. The builder Georg Bischof from Dettelbach extended the nave and rebuilt the north choir. In 1861 the new tower and the sacristy were built.

In 1946 the inside of the church was renovated before the outside was renovated in 1947. In 1967 lightning struck the church. It was not until 1974 that the damage was finally repaired. Further renovations were made in 1975 and 1977, 1982 to 1985 and 1990. The church is classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .

description

The church presents itself as a hall building . The choir has moved in and is closed on three sides. The nave is flat and has only two window axes. In the 19th century, a staircase to the gallery was attached to the western outer wall of the nave. The year 1766 above the portal refers to the year it was built. The tower with a rectangular floor plan adjoins it in the northwest. His pointed helmet is based on the typical towers from the time of the Würzburg bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn .

Furnishing

Altars

The high altar in the choir is much older than the church itself. It comes from the 17th or 18th century and originally stood in the Catholic Nikolauskirche in Neuses am Berg . During the renovation in 1946/1947 the altars were replaced by the Würzburg company Spiegel. The sheet was renovated by Hans Klein, who also came from Würzburg. The sheet is much younger than the structure and came into the church at the end of the 19th century.

The high altar has a two-column structure with "tangled" (twisted) columns. The church did not receive the predella and the tabernacle until 1972. The altarpiece depicts Our Lady with two angels. In the extract there is a relief of the Most Holy Trinity . Two assistant figures frame the altar. On the right is the figure of St. Sebastian, on the left that of St. Nicholas.

The two two-column side altars were built at the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century. They probably come from the Nikolauskirche in Geldersheim . To the west is the Christ altar with Jesus on the Mount of Olives on the sheet and with the Christ monogram IHS on the excerpt. To the east is the Margaret altar with the depiction of Margaretha and a Marian monogram in the excerpt .

Bells

The ringing of St. Mary's Church consists of three bells that came to the church in 1948 and were made by an unknown foundry . It is unclear which bells originally hung in the tower of the church.

Surname Keynote Diameter in centimeters Weight in kilograms Reliefs, inscriptions
Marienbell c '' 83 300 Our Lady ; "The cath. The parish of Neusetz donated to us "," Patronage festival Mariae Birth 1948 "," Joy ready for this village, peace be her first "

Margaret bell f '' 62 130 Margaretha ; "Those who returned home happily from the world war", "Patronage festival Mariae Birth 1948"

Further equipment

The oldest element of the equipment is a late Gothic wooden lecture cross from the 16th century. The pulpit came into the church in the 18th century and can be entered through the sacristy. On the underside of the sound cover a dove symbolizes the Holy Spirit. A bishop's figure also came to St. Mary's Church in the 18th century. It probably represents the holy bishop Valentinus , who was the second patron of the church until the beginning of the 20th century.

A pilgrimage pole for trips to the Maria im Sand church and Walldürn was made in 1866. The Way of the Cross in the nave was created in 1915 by the Munich artist Kaspar Schleibner and consists of 14 elements. In the western nave there is a painting of the patroness of the church, Our Lady. It was created for the church in the 20th century.
