Interior of the church

The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Martin is the village church of Geroda in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen . The church belongs to the architectural monuments of Geroda and is registered together with the churchyard wall under the number D-6-72-126-1 in the Bavarian list of monuments . The parish is part of the Lohr am Main deanery .

history

Geroda was originally a branch of the original parish of Brend . Because of the great distance to Brend, a chapel already existed in the first half of the 14th century . The Gothic church tower that exists today probably belonged to this . In 1345, the Bishop of Würzburg Otto II von Wolfskeel elevated Geroda to an independent parish, breaking away from Brend . After the Reformation was introduced in Geroda in 1550, a first Protestant pastor was appointed in 1558 . As village lords, the Freiherren von der Tann prevented all counter-Reformation attacks by the Abbey of Fulda and the Diocese of Würzburg . So Geroda and Platz remained Protestant in a Catholic area. In 1862 the nave of the church was built. Since 1999, the former synagogue near the church has been used as a parish hall after renovation .

description

The church tower stands as a choir tower in the east. The choir has a star vault and a Gothic sacrament niche in the north wall . The nave, on the other hand, has a flat roof. The coats of arms of the Freiherren von der Tann and the Freiherren von Bibra can be seen to the left and right of the choir arch . In the middle in front of the chancel arch is the altar with a crucifix , to the left and right of it the wooden pulpit on a stone column and another altar with a crucifix. The baptismal font in a bright red bears the year 1600. On the western gallery is the organ with a baroque prospectus drawn up from around 1680th
